I’m Ready!

So basically all of the training is done, and the taper is on. I have only a few minimal workouts left, and I fly to the Canary Islands tomorrow morning. I thought I would feel more excitement/nervousness than I do. Maybe that is yet to come. One reason for my lack of feeling might be the fact that this race is such an unknown wild card to me. This is both because of the distance and the unknown course. On a flat course with blue bird conditions, I could almost predict to the minute when I would cross the finish line. This tri will likely have good weather given the location, but it is almost assuredly to have wind, and a category 2 climb. Thus I have categorized four different goals (A, B, C, and D). The wide range of these goals are based on possible paces and show how wide open I foresee the possibilities.

Goal D (Just Finish)

This is the case when all goals are out the window, and I just end up crossing the finish line before the time limit. This is the goal when I rely on all the training and time I have put into this just to get me to the line. Speaking of training, given that all training done this year was done with this weekend in mind, the summer’s totals give the event a little more gravity. In training for this race this year I have swam over 44 km (27 miles), ridden my bike over 1,600 km (1,000 miles), and ran over 320 km (200 miles). With that I should be ready eh? We shall see!
